Now Hiring: Costume Designer for Cry-Baby the Musical

Playhouse Stage Company is seeking a Costume Designer for our upcoming production of Cry-Baby the Musical, with the potential for additional design opportunities later in our 38th Season. This is a paid position.

We are looking for a designer who is:

  • Local to New York’s Capital Region

  • Able to provide their own transportation

  • Creative, organized, and collaborative

Position Overview

The Costume Designer will be responsible for bringing the world of Cry-Baby to life through thoughtful, period-inspired costume design. Responsibilities include:

  • Meeting with the Director and creative team to discuss the concept and vision of the production

  • Presenting inspiration images and initial design ideas

  • Creating character sketches / costume renderings

  • Executing designs by pulling from stock, sourcing, or building costumes as needed

  • Ensuring accurate fittings and appropriate tailoring for all cast members

  • Being available during technical rehearsals (April 6–9) for notes, alterations, and adjustments

  • Overseeing strike responsibilities: laundering, organizing, and restocking costumes following closing night

Note: The Costume Designer is not required to be available during the performance run, but must be present for tech, final adjustments, and strike.

Production Details

  • Show: Cry-Baby the Musical

  • Tech Dates: April 6–9, 2026

  • Opening Night: April 10, 2026

  • Closing Performance: April 26, 2026
