It’s Time for our Annual Setting the Stage Appeal!
Your gift to our Setting the Stage Appeal will help mAKe our work possible!
Friends,
Every spring, before a single light is hung or a costume fitted, we have to build a theatre to make free outdoor summer theatre happen. Literally. Park Playhouse is a beautiful open-air amphitheater in Albany's Washington Park — but the stage, the sound, the lighting rigs, the whole infrastructure? We create it from scratch, every single summer. That work starts now. And it costs real money.
This year's show is Footloose: The Musical — a big, joyful, high-energy production, featuring both our incredible students and fantastic professional performers, that's going to light up Washington Park from July 21 through August 16. It's free. Every lawn seat, every performance, free to anyone who wants to be there. No barriers to access.
That's the deal we've made with this community for 38 years, and we intend to keep it.
But free to our audience doesn't mean free to produce, especially these days. Every instructor, actor, musician, and backstage crew member on that stage is a paid professional. In a region where that's far from the norm, we're proud to compensate our artists — and your support is what makes that possible. Just like it makes it possible to afford our production costs, which are higher than ever.
Your gift to our Annual Setting the Stage Appeal helps us:
Keep Park Playhouse admission free for all audiences
Provide young performers with life-changing opportunities through our education programs
Pay the professional performers, teachers, muscians, and technicians who make our work happen
Please consider making a tax-deductible donation in support of our work today. Together, we can ensure another unforgettable summer of performing arts entertainment and youth arts education for our entire community.
With gratitude,
The Playhouse Team
